Explore Saddle Energy’s residential and commercial solar services in Jamaica, including solar panel installation, battery storage, inverters, system design, maintenance, and energy audits. We provide grid-tied, hybrid, and off-grid photovoltaic (PV) solutions professionally sized to reduce electricity bills, improve energy independence, and deliver reliable renewable energy for homes, businesses, schools, and government facilities. Services Saddle Energy’s primary goal is to provide energy solutions which will significantly reduce the cost of energy to our residential and commercial clients. The current cost of power is high and volatile and is very dependent on the price of fossil fuel sources such as oil and LNG. We are going to change this. Saddle Energy’s approach is to ensure energy efficiency through energy metering and monitoring of your home or business. We then provide renewable energy production solutions through solar PV systems which can reduce your energy bill by 40 – 100 % by generating your own electricity, rather than buy it from the utility. Our energy management and engineering professionals identify, develop, design and implement integrated energy demand side management (DSM), renewable energy production through solar PV, and return on investment strategies. The DC energy generated by the solar panels is converted by the grid-tied inverter into AC power which can be used by a facility. If there is a short fall in solar generation, power is automatically pulled from the grid (JPS) to satisfy the needs of the facility. Grid-tied systems cannot store energy. They generate power only during daylight hours (6am – 6pm) after which all power to support the facility must be bought from the grid (JPS). We use only top quality modules in all our systems and our modules have a minimum 25 years performance warranty. Similarly, our inverters are state-of-the-art high efficiency inverters to ensure the maximum conversion of sunlight into energy. Grid-Tied Systems A grid-tied solar PV system can save up to 60% off your current JPS bill for residential customers and up to 75% for commercial customers. Our grid-tie systems use: PV modules (also known as solar panels) Grid-tied inverter Balance of system (BOS) which includes cabling, combiner boxes , circuit breakers, lightening and surge protection Racking and mounting hardware Remote monitoring via the cloud or mobile app Utility interconnect licensing, JPS Standard Offer Contract (SOC) as an available option Our system pricing is all inclusive of mechanical and electrical installation and commissioning. A hybrid system has most of the same components as grid-tied with the following exceptions: PV panels – there are more panels in a hybrid system vs a grid-tied so as to generate power which can be stored on the batteries Hybrid inverter – replaces the grid-tied inverter. A hybrid inverter can charge and discharge the batteries to which it is connected. We only use high-efficiency all-in-one hybrid inverters Lithium Ion (LI) batteries – these batteries store the excess power generated from the solar panels We use only LI batteries. In particular, we use LiFePo batteries which are the safest of existing LI battery chemistries. Our batteries are stackable to increase the amount of storage needed. They are maintenance free and desired to last for over 10 years (6,000 deep cycles). LI batteries offer a host of advantages over older lead-acid battery technology, including life-times, safety, space and weight savings. Hybrid Systems (Battery Storage) Hybrid systems include the use of batteries to store excess power generated from the solar panels. Power is pulled from the batteries when the sun goes down to supply the needs of the facility. If there is a short fall in battery power, power automatically and seamlessly pulled from the JPS grid. With a hybrid system is possible to reduce the JPS bill by 95% and more. Monitoring Saddle Energy provides logging and monitoring products and services. We use pre-installation logging of power consumption of a facility to gather data critical to optimal sizing of the solar PV system. For residential customers we use the Emporia Vue 2 logging platform. For our commercial customers, we the industrial strength E-gauge logger provided by our partners N-Ertrak Energy Management Systems. Continuous logging and monitoring is provided post-installation of our solar PV systems to ensure that the installation performs as per design and to be able to take early remedial action to ensure maximum return on your solar PV installation.

  • How do Solar Batteries work during a Power Outage? | Saddle Energy Ltd

How do Solar Batteries work during a Power Outage? This is a question we get very often. We offer a battery backed or Hybrid Solar PV system, which includes batteries, but also allows you to say connected to the utility grid. One of the greatest benefits of having a battery backed Solar PV System is that you can still have cleanly generated energy when there is a power outage. So how does this work? At Saddle Energy Ltd, we provide Lithium Ion Batteries for our Hybrid Solar PV Systems. A quick note on this: Lithium Ion batteries are by far the safest and most efficient option for a Solar PV System battery, as they require less space, ventilation and maintenance than their nearest competitor, Lead Acid batteries. Think of a very large cell phone battery. They are supremely easy to use, and require little to no maintenance! When implemented in our Hybrid Solar PV Systems, these batteries are storing unused energy that is generated by the panels throughout the day. We take a detailed approach to analyzing your energy needs to ensure that sufficient energy is stored to power your home or facility throughout the night, and longer if your needs demand it. With our Hybrid Solar PV System, you get the best of both worlds: solar power generated by the panels to be used during the day, solar energy that is stored in the batteries to be used at night, in the case of a stretch of bad weather, you still have the power of the utility service to fall back on. During a power outage, there is no power being sent through the grid. This will affect the energy generated by solar panels in a Hybrid Solar PV System as well, as all systems tied to the grid have to abide by the rules of the utility. Although it may seem arbitrary, it is important to follow these rules as they ensure the safety of the technicians working on the grid at any point in time. However, if you have a battery backed system, you will still have your stored energy to fall back on! The batteries will be able to take over the energy requirements when there is a power outage, however the rules of the utility service mentioned above have to be considered. The grid can't be "activated" by your system during a power cut, as that would jeopardize the technicians working on it. Therefore a mechanism is needed to separate your system from the grid for the duration of the power cut. Fortunately, there are batteries that allow for this to happen with a simple physical relay switch that is switched when a power cut is detected! As reported in the news on an almost daily basis, individuals, communities and even corporations are realizing the importance and benefit of switching to a clean, renewable energy resource. At Saddle Energy Ltd, we would love to help you get the conversation of switching to solar energy started. Give us a call at 876-884-5528 today!

  • How to save energy during Jamaica’s COVID-19 lockdown | Saddle Energy Ltd

How to save energy during Jamaica’s COVID-19 lockdown The novel coronavirus known as COVID-19 has changed so much in our daily lives in Jamaica, most noticeably our daily movements. In an effort to “flatten the curve” the Government of Jamaica has instructed its citizens to restrict their movement more and more over the course of the last few weeks aka “#TanAYuhYaad”. Many of us are working from home, schooling from home and doing all that we can to reduce our interaction with others and hopefully slow the spread of this deadly virus. There is no doubt that between the presence of children at home all day to the increased use of streaming platforms such as Netflix, our home energy usage has definitely increased and the JPS bills will increase to match. Here are a few tips to minimize your home energy usage as much as possible right now. Turn off the lights As obvious as it may seem, turning off lights that are not being used is a big way to save energy. Turning off lights when everyone is sleeping, reminding each other to keep the bathroom light off when not in use; simple but efficient ways to minimize use. This also covers using less electrical light in the first place. Consider moving your workstation to an area with lots of natural sunlight, and keeping windows and doors open to let in as much light as possible during the day. This may even be a good time to try out those scented candles, and set a cozy mood with the family. Energy saving bulbs Try picking up a few LED Bulbs when you do your grocery shopping. They are available in most supermarkets and according to the U.S. Department of Energy, quality LED light bulbs use 75 percent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs do, and they last 25 times longer. Give the Dryer a break If you use an electric dryer for your clothing, try to give it a break once in a while. Being home all day means that you can take advantage of the Sun and its heat, and get crisp dry clothes by hanging them outside to dry instead of using the dryer. Use Powerstrips The great thing about powerstrips is that they allow you to quickly unplug multiple devices at once. All devices pull energy once they are plugged in, whether or not they are in use. Unplugging them when not in use can save a lot. Use the Microwave or Toaster instead As Jamaicans, we’re big on cooking. However, you could be saving a pretty penny by giving the stove and oven a break. Try using the microwave and toaster if you have them instead. YOu would be surprised at the things that can be cooked in a small toaster oven. We at Saddle Energy Ltd. hope these tips will help you to keep your JPS bill as low as possible while we stay at home together.
